Friends of the Children - Montana is a professional youth mentoring organization that pairs salaried, professional mentors, who we call Friends, with children who have big hopes and dreams but face significant obstacles, such as hunger, homelessness or violence in the home. We work with children starting from age 4-6 through high school, for 12+ years, no matter what. Friends spend 4 hours per week with each child in the classroom, at home, and in the community to foster positive social-emotional growth and develop life skills. Our two generation approach also focuses on engaging caregivers to promote whole family health and well-being. Our outcomes are notable. More than 93% of the children we serve go on to enroll in higher education, secure living wage employment or enlist in the military. 98% of youth delay parenting until after their teen years and more than 92% avoid contact with the justice system. We are an independent chapter of the national Friends of the Children network.
