  • ENCOURAGE • LISTEN • EMPOWER The individual decisions and actions of every team member determine the safety and success of any construction project. Regardless of their role, each person on the job has a profound responsibility to take the initiative, accountability, and personal ownership in keeping their team and job site safe. We must work to create an environment that encourages communication, teamwork, sharing of ideas and perspectives, and a commitment to listening and embracing every voice. This not only builds trust and confidence in every individual, it also deepens respect, unity, and understanding within teams at all levels. Everyone is empowered to use their voice, but voices only matter if they’re heard. Regarding safety, nothing is more important than listening, understanding and embracing what is communicated in the workplace. This is how we create the foundation for a culture that empowers and values every voice and ensures everyone in every role feels seen, heard, and supported. Positive change is the collective efforts of every company, project team, and individual. One decision can change an entire project, one incident can change an entire team, and one voice can inspire many more that can change an entire industry. It takes commitment, determination, and confidence in each and every one of us to create a strong safety culture that will impact our careers, families, community, and industry for generations to come.

This week is Construction Safety Week! 🚧 Safety Week is an opportunity to celebrate, share, and recommit to best safety practices in the construction industry. It started in 2014, when more than 40 national and global construction firms comprising the Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) CEO Forum joined forces with a single aim: to inspire everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety. As Construction Safety Week shares on their website—when we come together across our industry to share safety knowledge and best practices, we all benefit. Our workers and construction sites are safer, stronger and better equipped to shape the landscape of our communities. Most importantly, it’s about ensuring every worker gets home at the end of the day. At Dick Anderson Construction, we pride ourselves on our world-class safety program. We uphold this safety standard on every project and in every location. Those familiar with DAC will recognize this commitment to safety in our core value: Build it safely. Build it well. • After nearly 50 years in this industry, we've seen the myths and misconceptions that give construction a bad reputation. It's time to set the record straight. Here are 4 misconceptions about construction, and why they're wrong: ➡ Misconception #1: Construction is an unskilled profession. There is a misconception that those in construction are unskilled. This could not be further from the truth. Taking a project from start to finish requires organization, accuracy, and craftsmanship. Every detail is precise—from the electricians placing conduits to the plumbers placing copper piping. Far from unskilled, the construction professionals we work with are artists! ➡ Misconception #2: Construction is only for men. It's true, construction is a male-dominated industry. However, there is a real need for women in construction, too. (As we celebrated during the recent #WomenInConstruction Week!) Women have incredible attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure. These are valuable traits to have in this industry. At DAC, some of our best team members, from the office to the field, are women. Data shows an increase in women joining construction over the last few years. In 2022 we hit a new high of 11% (Statista). While exciting, there is plenty of room to grow. If you’re a woman considering a job in the construction industry, know there is a place for you. 👷♀️ ➡ Misconception #3: Construction work is unsafe. Safety is a choice. In construction, some elements can be unsafe when handled poorly, and some companies give the industry a bad reputation by choosing not to focus on safety. At DAC, we want our people to thrive both in and out of work. Ensuring a safe work environment keeps our people coming home to their families at the end of the day. That’s a top priority for us. ➡ Misconception #4: You can't build a sustainable career in construction. Many people don't realize how many career paths exist in construction. For example, you might start as a laborer. But from there you could move into carpentry, project management, estimating, or management. You could even be a mechanic. (Did you know at DAC we employ 6 full-time mechanics for our shop?) The fact is, the construction industry isn’t going anywhere. Demand is on the rise. At the right company, you can make a six-figure salary with great benefits. Even if you start as an hourly employee, at DAC, you receive full benefits. From there, you can choose-your-own-adventure when it comes to growing your career. One thing is certain, in construction, the opportunities are many. ___ What other misconceptions or questions do you have about the construction industry? Drop it in the comments 👇 —we're happy to answer! #constructionindustry #constructionlife #construction #constructioncareer

We are pleased to share with you 28 Mile, a stunning multi-family condo residence located in Whitefish, Montana, just 20 minutes from our Columbia Falls Plant. This innovative 4-story project showcases the versatility of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), utilized for both floor-ceiling assemblies and roof elements. Despite a late fall start and challenging winter conditions, the use of CLT panels supported with component stick frame walls enabled us to assemble the structure and achieve a high-quality custom build in the middle of a Montana winter. 28 Miles offers not just a home, but a Montana river front lifestyle, with majestic mountain views, and a short walk to all the amenities of Whitefish. With its prime location and exceptional construction, who wouldn't want to live here? 🏡✨ Developer - KCM Enterprises - Casey Malmquist GC - Dick Anderson Construction #SmartlamNA #MassTimberDesign #SustainableConstruction #TimberTech #GreenBuilding #InnovativeArchitecture #WoodWorks #EcoDesign #TimberConstruction #SustainableLiving #DesignWithNature #GreenBuildingMaterials #TimberInnovation #EcoConstruction #SmartDesign #SustainableTimber #MassTimberSolutions #TimberRevolution #GreenArchitecture #TimberTechTrends #EcoFriendlyDesign #WoodenWonders Photo Credit : Joel Jost

  • Meet Jamie! Jamie is one of our talented Project Managers at DAC Missoula. From legos to wood shop class to civil engineering, Jamie has always fostered a love of engineering. We asked her about her career in construction and her advice to women looking to follow a similar path. 👇🏼 Q: What led you to a career in the construction industry? Growing up, I was always interested in building things, whether it be elaborate lego projects or helping my dad with house remodeling projects. Through high school, I took as many of the wood shop and welding classes that were offered. My wood shop teacher connected me with a local construction company for a summer laborer job out of high school, and the rest is history! Q: Did you always know you'd pursue a career in construction? Not always. I went to college for civil engineering and excelled at structural engineering classes, so for a bit in college, I considered being a structural engineer. Ultimately, though, working construction in the summers during college made me decide that I wanted to stick with construction. Q: How has being a woman in the industry changed since you started your career? While construction remains a male-dominated field, the number of women in construction has grown significantly since I started. That's amazing! On a lighter note, women’s specific workwear and boot options have improved. This may seem insignificant, but it’s not. Q: What do you love about this industry and your current role? It’s dynamic and challenging. You never do the same thing every day and are constantly problem-solving, but there is always something new to learn. Q: What makes you proud of the work you do? Being part of projects that positively impact Missoula or whatever community the project may be in if it’s out of town. This goes hand in hand with the relationships you build on each project with the owner, architect and other team members. Q: What advice do you have for women thinking about a career in construction? Don’t be scared to be in a male-dominated field or feel you lack the experience or knowledge to have a career in construction. Just because you didn’t grow up with any exposure to the industry does not mean you cannot learn and make a career out of it. While it can have its challenges, I truly believe that women are accepted and respected in the construction industry and that most companies and employees see the value that women bring to the company, especially to the project/jobsite level. #womeninconstruction #construction #WICWeek
